Construction Safety Auditor

WRA is seeking a qualified Construction Safety Inspector for auditing Contractor construction work sites for heavy construction contracts including major bridge and highway construction, throughout the State of Maryland and preparing Construction Site Safety Audit Reports.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reviewing approved Contractor Safety Plans for compliance with the contract requirements including state (MOSH) and federal (OSHA) regulations
- Performing randomly scheduled field safety audits at active construction sites including highway, bridge, building and other heavy construction projects
- Preparing audit reports for documenting Contractor safety compliance at active construction sites including highway, bridge, building and other heavy construction projects
- Scheduling routine site safety audits, summarizing findings and preparing reports of the sites audited, including any deficiencies noted
- Maintaining and filing site safety audit reports
- Attending progress and pre-construction meetings as assigned
- Working with construction team members to report unsafe work practices by Contractors and Sub-contractors
- Working cooperatively with others to promote a safe work site environment
- Communicating effectively with the Contractor and Facility Owners
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Minimum High School Diploma or State Equivalency Certificate. Associate’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years performing full-time construction site safety audits including the development of site safety audit reports, safety incident reports and review of approved Contractor Site Specific Safety Plans
- Must have a current OSHA 30-Hour Certification, OSHA 500 preferred
- American Red Cross First Aid Safety Certification Required
- Maryland MOT Traffic Control Certification Required
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft 365 Office Suite) required
- Experience with using construction reporting software applications for preparing documentation and audit reports including site location mapping utilizing ArcGIS applications Required
- Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and personal vehicle for travel to and from assigned construction sites
- Must have the ability to work independently
- Must be willing to work nights and overtime, when required by the project assignment
Physical Requirements (Essential Functions):
This position requires the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks in the field as part of the essential job functions. Duties may include:
- Walking and navigating across rough or uneven terrain such as mud, rocks, grass, dirt, steep hillsides, heavily wooded areas, and other unpaved surfaces
- Must be able to perform site audits in high-level bay and river crossings, which may involve climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles to access remote high-level work areas requiring fall-protection harnesses. (e.g., Chesapeake Bay Bridge and future Key Bridge construction)
- Performing physical activities such as bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing
- Remaining in a stationary position—either standing or sitting—for extended periods of time
- Repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Must be able to perform site audits in high-level bay and river crossings (e.g., Chesapeake Bay Bridge and future Key Bridge construction)
- Must be able to function safely in an environment with potential risks, including, but not limited to those described in this document.
The work environment may include exposure to a range of environmental conditions, including high and low temperatures, precipitation, and other outdoor elements. Work may also be performed in noisy conditions or confined/enclosed spaces.

The expected compensation range for this position is $32.00 - $35.00/hour, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.).
